okay. firefighters sounded a second alarm. san francisco is in the spotlight today supervisors will begin considering allowing the nation's tiniest apartment units, an idea driven by the tight housing market. katie marzullo is live in the south of market area itch >> reporter: -- here take a look at building across the street this houses so-called microapartments the units 300 square feet. the new rules would allow those to come down to 220 square feet about the size of a parking space we are standing in now. 220 square feet. we have video we want to show you of a mock-up microapartment. these were created by berkeley developer patrick kennedy he's working on another development

in somo. you are looking at 150 square feet of living space, bathroom, kitsch and closet that will get you up to 220 this is the concept of supervisor scott weiner saying it is the only affordable housing in san francisco, the only way singles can afford to live here who make up more than 40% of san francisco population, these would go if $1200 to $1700 a month compared to the price of a studio, more than $2,000. opponents say it is going to create a city that is too dense going to put strain on public transportation and while the mock-ups are pretty the real ones could end up with low ceilings and bad lighting. new york and boston are already experimenting with microapartments. san francisco's supervisors are expected to vote today this is only for new construction they are not

going to chop up the building where you currently live. katie marzullo, abc7 news. the people most affected by the richmond chevron refinery fire are being told there may be no way to prove their health problems are linked to the smoke that covered their neighborhoods in early august. chevron's response and the public that is demanding answers. >> reporter: one of the things that people found out is the ruptured pipe should have been as thick as five pennies. it went unchecked and only as thick as one penny when it blew. >> we did not inspect the individual component which was less than five feet in length. >> we've obtained internal documents from chevron that recommend that every segment of the pipe in this service should have been included in a pipe inspection program. >> reporter: fed, state and local authorities told the crowd of 100, they would tirelessly seek justice for

those affected by the fire august 6th. >> how long can we held our breath? the fire was over 11 hours. >> reporter: the u.s. chemical safety board says the decisions made by chevron are being investigated. epa launched criminal investigation into why chevron bypassed air monitoring equipment and burned off toxic gas 20 times without reporting it between 2005 and 2009. chevron paid a find of $1 -- $170,000 for sulphur dioxide emissions. >> it makes it harder to trust the credibility. >> reporter: a lot of people still complaining of health issues and weren't happy to hear what cal-osha said, it is unlikely chemicals could be detected in their bodies to prove their health issues are connected to that refinery fire. i'm alan wang, abc7 news.

investigators say tiny hidden cameras were found along with a of drugs in the home of a santa clara elementary school principal. one camera found inside aid teddy bear. the 42-year-old made his first court appearance yesterday after police say he offered drugs to an uncover officer. police found meth, ecstasy and date rape drug ghb at his san francisco home. he was realized and faces five felony drug counts. san francisco stepping up to levine up -- to cleanup dirty streets, streets littered with trash, workers will speak to merchants who may be responsible for the trash. they will be looking for uncollected garbage, illegal dumping and graffiti. department of public works has been conducting night walks. today the 49ers will be
